Tarantella

TarantellaTarantella is one chemical tanker, which I hadn’t heart till today. I met somewhere information about this ship and definitely became speechless, because this ship is one perfectly designed vessel. Tarantella has an overall length of 182.90 meters and length between perpendiculars of 176.00 meters. The beam of the chemical tanker is 32.20 meters and the depth is 17.10 meters. While fully loaded the ship has a draft of 12.18 meters. These measurements may be looks too small for people, who had seen VLCCs (which have more than 300 meters length), but for chemical tankers this is pretty large, and the measurements are amazing. The deadweight of Tarantella chemical tanker is 46,764 metric tons. The vessel was built in the Croatian Trogir Shipyard. The ship is part of contract for 6 sister-ships for the companies Anglo-Atlantic Steamship Company and Laurin Maritime. The vessel has 16 tanks, with whole cargo capacity of 52,969 cubic meters. The chemical tanker Tarantella has own inter gas system, which has a capacity to fill almost the whole cargo space with inert gas. That is important for each tanker, carrying dangerous goods. The main engine is consisted of pair of MAK 8M32C, which is making one very Tarantella chemicalstrong engine and gives a pretty high reliability of the propulsion system.

TarantellaThe maximum power of the main engine is 3,840 kW each, or a total power of 7,680 kW. This main engine gives to the vessel a possibility to realize a maximum speed of 15.45 knots. The economy, or cruising speed is much lower of about 14.50 knots, but this is much enough for the ship to do the required job.
The bad sector of all chemical tankers is loading and discharging. It should be done very strictly and the machinery should be reliable. On board of Tarantella chemical tanker had been installed 14 Marflex electrical submerged centrifugal pumps. The pumps in the cargo tanks 2,3,4 (from both boards) have capacities of 400 cubic meters per hour. The other cargo pumps have capacities of 250 cubic meters per hour. The tank solar system is made by Saab, and the tank cleaning is made automatically by two Scan-Jet machines for clod and hot water cleaning. The tank cleaning in dirty job, but it should be done strictly, because mixing of cargo may cause not only problems with the cargo, but also explosions or some other accidents. The ship is operated by 21 crew members, without electrician, who is boarded temporary on board for solving some problems with the electricity system.
