Merchant Vessel - British Emerald

Merchant Vessel - British Emerald

Merchant Vessel - British EmeraldThe largest vessel that is carrying LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) definitely is one of the most beautiful technical outfit built ever. It is part from the fleet of BP Shipping, but it was built is South Korea in the ship-yard of Hyundai Heavy Industries. This ship is the first from the series of diesel-electric gas vessels with dual-fuel (DFDE). It was planned for the ship-owner and will give a new movement into LNG carriers.

The vessel is combining a economic and operational factors in some great correlation, which is making this vessel very important and very good for the ship-owner and even for the whole shipping industry. The power system is consisted by main engine, which is giving almost the whole power for the moving of this vessel.

Merchant Vessel - British EmeraldThe innovations for the power systems are making this vessel unique. The power is well controlled by electric propulsion system, the system Ecobot and some other control systems. All this is building one engine that is giving enough electricity for the whole ship and for the tanks. The heart of the new DFDE is the Ecobot system, which is using LNG gas that evaporates from the tanks during the transportation, to fuel the main power engine. The main engine work pretty good with gas and heavy fuel oil, only depends from the situation. The new DFDE system is nearly 2-4% more expensive than the other older one, but it is with more than 10% more effective.

The vessel British Emerald is the largest ever built LNG Carrier. The ship can carry 155,000 cubic meters natural gas. Its measurements are 288m length and 44.2 m breadth. The depth of British Emerald is 26 m. The speed that the vessel use for crossing is 20 knots, and the maximum speed is about 23 knots.

Merchant Vessel - Elbegas

Merchant Vessel - ElbegasElbegas is one real engineer wonder of world of shipping, not because of its large size, or high-technology engines, but mostly because of the dangerous cargo, which this vessel is carrying. Elbegas is LPG (Liquid Peroleum Gas) Carrier, with deadweight of 7,656 metric tons. The vessel was built in the late year 1983, when the ship-building was not so well developed, but in spite of that it is sailing absolutely safety, through the years. The vessel has a length of 116.54 meters, breadth of 17.25 meters. The draught of the ship is 9.67 meters and these measurements are enough for the ship to carry nearly 6,368 cubic meters of cargo. We should also add to that information, that gross tonnage of the ship is 5,958 metric tons and net tonnage is 1,787 metric tons. The vessel was built in Orenstein & Koppel in Germany, which was one very qualited ship-yard for the years of building this vessel, and that is the main reason, this ship to have all necessary equipment for carrying LPG. Elbegas is certified by German Lloyd Register, and every year there is inspections for the condition of the vessel and this vessel every year pass the inspections almost without any problems.

Merchant Vessel - ElbegasThe flag, which Elbegas is sailing is Liberian, like most of the ships of Ahrenkiel Group, one of the largest ship-owners of the world of Chemical carrying.

The vessel Elbegas has a main engine MaK8M551 MCR with a full power of 4,000 kW, which is giving enough power for the vessel to reach a speed of 16 knots, which is the maximum speed of the vessel. The economy cruising speed of Elbegas is 15 knots. The ship is sailing with heavy fuel oil – RMG 380. The auxiliary diesel generators are three, each with power 558 kW at 900 rpm. Merchant Vessel - British InnovatorBritish Innovator is vessel, which is giving a lot of innovations into the world of gas carrying. This ship is LNG carrier (Liquid Natural Gas Carrier) is designed with double hull technology, which is required by IMO for the last 15 years, and saves the world from possible flowing into the ocean. Such may be a grand disaster for the whole sea life. The deadweight of British Innovator is 75,074 metric tons. The length of the ship is 278.8 meters and the beam of the vessel is 42.6 meters. The draft of British Innovator, when she is fully loaded is 11.35 meters. The vessel can reach the maximum speed of 20.1 knots, and the economy speed is the very good 17.9 knots. With this speed and with innovations into the engine system the vessel is reducing the fuel consumption of fuel with more than 10%, and CO2 emissions with nearly 8% from all other ships from the same class. The vessel has innovative engine and very good shape for reducing strength of the water. The main engine of British Innovator is single steam turbine, made by the famous company of ship-building and engine construction Mitsubishi. The whole power that this engine is giving to the ship is 13,015 kW. The auxiliary diesel generators add 3,100 kW more to the whole ship power and this makes the vessel very powerful and fast. The vessel was built on 13th of November, 2002 and the day is Wednesday. The Samsung heavy Industries Company Limited, situated in Korea creates one bijou in shipping and LNG carrying, and this bijou is British Innovator. The vessel shines with a lot of stars on the crown of BP Shipping and you may easy see this.

The vessel was registered in the port of Douglas, island of man and flag of British Innovator is British. The ship is operated by BP Shipping Limited and registered by Lloyd and certified every year from the same institution. Very interesting for this fact is that this vessel passed every inspection with 5 and more points from all 6 available. Merchant Vessel - British Councillor

Merchant Vessel - British Councillor

Merchant Vessel - British CouncillorBritish Councillor is the vessel from type VLGC (very Large Gas Carriers). This is a newly type of vessels, and I think that this vessel is opening a new page into the Gas Carrying. British Councillor is ship built in 2007 and absolutely new and innovative designed. The deadweight of the vessel is 54,450 metric tons and the cargo capacity of the vessel is 83,270 cubic meters. The ships is designed to carry liquid petroleum gas (LPG) and has double hull, as requirement of IMO from 1994. British Councillor has a length of 230 meters, width of 36.6 meters and draft of 11.6 meters. These measurements of the vessel are making her a large and very useful for the ship-owner. British Councillor has a maximum speed of 18.9 knots, and economy speed of 15.9 knots.

The consumption of fuel of the vessel British Councillor is about 45 tons per day, with economy speed and nearly 68 tons per day with higher speed. Note that increasing speed up to optimal cost 3 times more, and this is absolutely unprofitable for the company to require sailing with maximum speed. So such kind of speed is allowed only is emergency situations or if there is a large delay from the schedule. In comparison with one super tanker this vessel has nearly 2 times less consumption, but measurements of it are 3 and more times smaller. So you should not wonder about this. The equipment on board of one gas carrier is much more than one of one tanker. The gas should be kept on lower temperature and this cost energy. All engines are designed to reduce the fuel consumption of the vessel with nearly 4%, which is ecological, British Councillor Propellerprofitable and good for the ship-owner.

Merchant Vessel - British CouncillorThe diesel engine of British Councillor is Mitsubishi, which is giving to the ship power of 12,960 kW for the vessel. The auxiliary diesel generators are giving to the ship more power of 2,300 kW, which are used in ports mostly. The ship was built in the famous and very qualited ship-yard of Mitsubishi heavy Industries Limited Japan. That is why this vessel is the new page into gas carrying and ship sailing. Well, may be you have seen more beautiful and more interesting vessels, but carrying of LPG is very dangerous and has a lot of risks for crew and ecology. The whole port may die, just after small accident with this vessel, because even small accidents are leading to explosions on LPGs.

British Councillor is operated by BP Shipping and sailing under British flag. The ship is certified by Lloyd register and the inspections are done every year, which means that not only the building is important for this vessel. The ship should be hold up by the crew. The vessel is very beautiful and very easy for the crew to operate with it. I'm sure that British Councillor will be interesting for the reader of "Cruise and Cargo Ships" website, largest website about ships, shipping and cruises.

The gross tonnage of the vessel is 117,895 metric tons and the cargo capacity into the tanks is 145,394 cubic meters of natural gas. The vessel has a too big measurements and this fact needs a strong and very useful engine and propulsion system. The main engine of Celestine River is Kawasaki UA-400 stream turbine. The full power that this main engines gives to the ship is 26,900 kW at 80 rpm. This power is enough for the ship to do all the necessary jobs by keeping the gas in low temperatures, and gives the speed of the ship of about 19.5 knots maximum speed and 17.9 knots cruising speed, which is very good for such kind of vessel. In spite of the high power that this vessel has, the auxiliary diesel generators add nearly 3,600 kW to the whole power of the vessel, which is used mostly for maneuvering, bow thrusters, and electricity on board.

Merchant Vessel - Celestine RiverThe auxiliary diesel generators Celestine River Bowmay also give emergency power for the system of freezing the gas into the tanks.

The ship is operated by K-Line Shipping Limited. The carrier has four MOSS type independent spherical tanks, which are isolated with special Kawasaki panels system, which allows into the tank to be kept a constant temperature, and the increasing to be decreased to low points. The boil off gas rate is maintained at about 0.15% per day by the system. The wheelhouse is equipped with advanced integrated electronic navigational system, which allows remote command over the machine, and panoramic vie of 360 degrees of the ship for easier eye navigation. The cargo system is leaden by the Cargo Room, where is installed Kawasaki Integrated Management Control System (IMCS), which is easier for operating and easier for working. The cargo pumps are innovated with higher rates for discharging, and the vessel can be loaded from 2 points separately. This grows the rates and reduces the time for staying at port or at anchorage. Alstergas AhrenkielWhen we are talking about dangerous ships we can not miss the Gas carriers. This type of merchant ships are very explodable an can make very serious damages to the nature just for minutes in well working atmosphere. The ship with name Alstergas is part of Ahrenkiel fleet and has a deadweight of 4,999 tdw. The cargo capacity of this ships is 4,116 cubic meters, devided into 4 bilobes. The ship has a length of 99.91 m and breadth of 15.40 m. The draught of Alstergas is 6.69 m. The gas carrier is designed to carry one of the most dangerous gasses – LPG, Ethylene, VCM and NH3. These gasses are well explodable and their transportation can cause a serious problem to the ship, but Alstergas is good designed and equipped in the best technologies for the year it was built, and that was 1991.

AlstergasThe main engine of the Gas Carrier is MaK 9M453C, MRC with a power of 3,000 kW at 600 rpm. This engine is not enough to the whole ship and cannot made the main purpose to be well maneuverable and fast. So there is also two auxiliary generators to give a electricity to the ship and all other equipment of it. The auxiliary generators are Caterpillar 3508 DI-TA each with power of 600 kW at 1,800 rpm. All these engines are giving enough power to the vessel to run with crossing speed of 14 knots. The maximum speed of the ship is nearly 16 knots, but there is too high price for it. The ship is also equipped with bowtruster for easy maneuvers in port.
Some kind of ships are not beautiful for the eye, but a lot of beautiful for the mind. And the merchant ship Alstergas, property of Ahrenkiel Group is one of these vessels. It is some kind of bomb, and you may stay on it. Very interesting and very beautiful for your mind.

Merchant Vessel Trinity Arrow

Merchant Vessel Trinity Arrow

Merchant Vessel Trinity ArrowTrinity Arrow is the newest LNG Carrier with membrane type built by the famous shipbuilder Imabari. The vessel has a cargo capacity of 154,900 cubic meters The vessel was built into the ship-yard of Koyo Dockyard and the owner of the beautiful LNG Carrier is Trinity Transport S.A. Trinity Arrow has a deadweight of 79,556 metric tons and gross tonnage of 108,010 metric tons. The overall length of the vessel is 289.93 meters and the length between perpendiculars is 276 meters. The other measurements of the vessel Trinity Arrow are beam of 44.70 meters, draught of 26.00 meters and draft, while fully loaded of 12.07 meters. On board of this LNG Carrier is installed main engine KAWASAKI UA400, which is giving to the vessel full power of 29,420 kW. This power is enough for the ship to reach the maximum cruising speed of 20.15 knots. But maximum speed of the ship is nearly 1 knot more, or 21.20 knots. But on board of the vessel there are many systems, because the cargo of such ships is very hard for transportation.

Merchant Vessel Trinity ArrowThe Trinity Arrow is the first LNG carrier in a series of four to adopt GTT’s M-III Membrane system. The ship is developed to be easier for maneuvering and to be proper for many ports and LNG Trinity Arrow LNGterminals of the world. And this is easy for understanding, because so large ship with so dangerous cargo will not be welcome in each port. That is why from Imabari had developed the safety system of the vessel. And now we see Trinity Arrow with perfectly and almost 90% sure system for loading and discharging of very dangerous and explosive cargo. The more rational hull construction and equipment comply with the Lloyd’s Register’s (LR) Rules and Regulations and effective notations such as ShipRight (SDA, FDA plus, CM), to ensure safe operation and navigation. For the FDA, the vessel employed LR design appraisal document of 40 year lifetime which is confirmed by LR’s 3-D FEM analysis based on the intended service routes including North Atlantic, Middle East to Mediterranean and Europe, Middle East to North America, and Middle East to Asia, etc.

The vessel has four cargo tanks, and the first cargo tank is the “Trapezoidal tank in the horizontal direction” in the LNG world, which is very efficient not only volume-wise compared with an existing prismatic tank but also in gaining reduction of fuel oil consumption as a result of the advanced hull shape.

The all hull and shape are designed with double hull construction with double bottom, double side shells, and trunk deck forming an octagonal section. The bulkhead of each tank is provided with a cofferdam and space heated by circulating glycol water to keep the temperature above +5 degrees C due to the physical properties of the steel in accordance with the requirements of the IGC code.
